What it does

Chiplab is a hosted MCP service that lets AI agents build, upload, and run firmware on virtual instances of real microcontrollers without physical hardware. It currently supports STM32 and Nordic boards across multiple frameworks including bare-metal Rust, Embassy, Zephyr RTOS, FreeRTOS, and Eclipse ThreadX.

  • Build and test firmware for microcontrollers directly from an AI agent without access to physical hardware.
  • Validate that compiled firmware runs correctly by capturing and inspecting UART output from the virtual board.
  • Develop and iterate on embedded code using multiple frameworks and chip models through a single agent interface.

Before you enable it

An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
