What it does
TabTree is an MCP server that lets Claude read and create mind maps and whiteboards stored as local files. It integrates with Claude Desktop or any MCP client to turn conversations into structured documents without uploading anything to the cloud.
- Have Claude read your existing TabTree maps and search through them to find relevant information for a conversation.
- Ask Claude to create a new mind map or kanban board from a conversation, spec, or transcript and save it as a local file.
- Propose changes to an existing map through Claude, which generates a suggestion file that you then approve in the TabTree app.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| list_maps | List all mind maps and boards in your TabTree backup folder. |
| read_map | Read the full contents of a specific mind map or board. |
| search_maps | Search across all maps in your backup folder for text content. |
| create_mindmap | Create a new mind map from scratch and save it as a local file. |
| create_board | Create a new kanban board and save it as a local file. |
| propose_changes | Generate a proposal file with suggested changes to an existing map, which you review and apply in the TabTree app. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
