What it does
SmartCut is a cutting optimization API for sheet, linear, and roll stock materials. It calculates efficient cutting layouts with support for grain direction, kerf, and exports to various machine formats and CAD systems. Developers integrate it to automate nesting and cutlist generation for manufacturing workflows.
- Submit a sheet cutting job and retrieve optimized layouts with cut positions and part placement on stock pieces.
- Export cutting plans in machine-specific formats like PTX (Homag), Biesse XML, or standard formats like PDF and DXF for CNC and laser equipment.
- Analyze 3D models to extract parts, then optimize them with grain constraints and orientation locks before generating printable labels.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| calculate | Submit a cutting optimization calculation and retrieve the result with part positions and cuts needed. |
| validate | Validate cutting inputs without running the full optimization. |
| status | Check if a calculation job is complete. |
| result | Retrieve the full result of a completed optimization calculation. |
| cancel | Cancel a running optimization job. |
| export | Export a calculation result in formats including PDF, CSV, DXF, SVG, PTX, Biesse XML, or Mayer .may. |
| labels | Generate printable part labels from a calculation result. |
| list_cut_types | List available saws and the export formats each offers. |
| import_parts | Push extracted parts into a Cutlist Evolution editor for user confirmation. |
| usage | Retrieve API usage statistics. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
