Shyn MCP server
What it does
Shyn is a local-first memory system for macOS that captures screen content, meeting recordings, browser history, and notes into an encrypted on-device database. It exposes five MCP tools that let AI assistants search and recall your personal history with semantic and keyword search, without any data leaving your machine.
- Ask your AI assistant contextual questions about your work history, such as decisions made in meetings or articles you've read, with answers grounded in your own captured content.
- Search across screen captures, meeting transcripts, and browsing history using hybrid keyword and semantic search to find information from your own activities.
- Explicitly save important information to memory or permanently delete specific items from the encrypted database using the remember and forget tools.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| search_memory | Hybrid search (keyword and semantic) across all captured content with source attribution. |
| recent_activity | Retrieves an orientation timeline of recent activities, useful for vague questions. |
| remember | Explicitly writes content to memory with optional tags for categorization. |
| forget | Permanently deletes memory entries by document ID, source, or time range with confirmation required. |
| memory_status | Returns health information, index counts, embedding model download progress, and connected sources. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
