What it does

This server provides access to OpenStreetMap data via the Overpass API through an MCP interface. It requires a paid Overspan API key and lets AI assistants query, search, and count geographic features in OpenStreetMap with usage tracking.

  • Find restaurants, shops, or other amenities within a radius of a given location.
  • Retrieve all features of a specific type (buildings, roads, parks) within a geographic bounding box.
  • Count how many features match certain criteria in an area before retrieving the full dataset to manage query costs.

Tools this server exposes

ToolDoes
overpass_queryRun raw Overpass QL queries for full access to OpenStreetMap data.
find_nearbySearch for features matching tag filters within a radius of a point.
features_in_bboxRetrieve features matching tag filters inside a bounding box.
count_featuresCount matching features in an area without retrieving them, using less quota.
get_usageCheck API key tier, limits, monthly quota used, and recent requests without consuming quota.

Before you enable it

An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
