What it does
CiteStamp is a read-only MCP server that checks citation health against public scholarly registries (Crossref, DataCite, OpenAlex) to identify unresolved or retracted references. It is for developers building agents or tools that need to verify citations before emitting them.
- Verify whether a reference resolves to a known scholarly work before an agent includes it in generated text.
- Find what supporting or refuting claims exist about a specific assertion in the citation graph.
- Identify retracted papers and unresolved citations in a bibliography to flag potential hallucinated references.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| what_supports | Returns typed edges in the citation graph that support a given claim. |
| what_refutes | Returns typed edges in the citation graph that refute a given claim. |
| what_cites | Returns works that cite a given reference. |
| references_of | Returns the references cited by a given work. |
| edges_about | Returns edges on a specified topic from the citation graph. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
