What it does
Thingctx exposes APIs, devices, and local processes as tools for AI agents by parsing W3C Thing Descriptions. It gates operations per action, handles multiple transport protocols, and keeps credentials server-side so agents never access keys directly.
- Call REST APIs, MQTT devices, or local subprocesses as AI agent tools without exposing credentials or allowing unauthorized operations.
- Route a single Thing that spans multiple protocols (HTTP, MQTT, RTSP, exec) through one unified tool interface.
- Compile OpenAPI specifications into W3C Thing Descriptions and gate which operations an agent can invoke on each resource.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| tools_from_thing_description | Returns a list of tools derived from actions, properties, and events defined in a W3C Thing Description. |
| invoke_tool | Executes a gated operation on a described Thing by routing the call through the appropriate transport binding and security context. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
