What it does
nlqdb is a Postgres database that you query in plain English through MCP instead of SQL. It infers your schema from how you use it, shows you every SQL statement it generates, and handles indexing and optimization automatically. It's for developers building applications who want to skip writing backend database code.
- Query a database by describing what you want in English (like 'the 5 newest orders with customer and item details') and get results without writing SQL.
- Let an AI agent maintain application state and memory by reading and writing to a real database through natural language instead of custom backend logic.
- Embed live data displays in HTML pages by adding a single `<nlq-data>` element with a plain-English description of what to show.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| ask | Query a database in plain English and receive a typed plan, the generated SQL, and results. |
| run | Execute a plain-English instruction against the database and see the changes before they are applied. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
