What it does
NicheDB is an open platform that aggregates public data from multiple sources into collections (games, packages, filings, music, books, etc.), enriches items with metadata from external services, and exposes them through web, RSS, JSON, API, CLI and MCP interfaces. It runs on Postgres and Redis and is designed for developers building tools that need access to continuously growing public datasets.
- Monitor new releases across package registries (npm, PyPI, Crates, Go, Hugging Face) and GitHub to stay updated on dependencies and open-source activity.
- Track game releases, regulatory filings (SEC, Federal Register), academic papers, or other niche datasets by subscribing to custom feeds with RSS, webhooks, or API endpoints.
- Integrate NicheDB data into applications via the REST API, CLI tool, or MCP server to enrich local data with YouTube videos, Wikipedia summaries, GitHub repository stats, or other external metadata.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| query_collections | List available collections and their metadata. |
| query_sources | Get status and details of data sources within a collection. |
| query_items | Search and retrieve items from a collection with filtering and pagination. |
| query_feeds | List saved feeds and their configuration. |
| query_enrichment | Retrieve enrichment data (YouTube videos, Wikipedia, GitHub stats, etc.) attached to items. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
