What it does
An MCP server for interacting with DMTF Redfish-compliant BMCs (iDRAC, iLO, XCC, OpenBMC). Read-only by default, with mutating tools gated behind explicit write-mode tiers and dry-run confirmations. Intended for operators and AI agents that need governed, auditable access to out-of-band server management interfaces.
- Query BMC system information, hardware inventory, sensors, and event logs without risking accidental changes.
- Perform controlled power operations or BIOS configuration changes after explicitly enabling the appropriate write-mode tier and confirming the dry-run preview.
- Manage multiple BMC endpoints from a single server instance using a multi-endpoint configuration file with per-endpoint read-only overrides.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| service_info | Returns the Redfish service root and capability information for the configured BMC endpoint. |
| set_power_state | Sends a power or reset action to a managed system; requires power write-mode and confirm=true to apply. |
| set_boot_override | Configures a one-time or persistent boot source override; requires power write-mode. |
| reset_manager | Resets the BMC manager; requires power write-mode. |
| cancel_task | Cancels a pending Redfish task; requires power write-mode. |
| set_bios_attributes | Sets one or more BIOS attributes; requires config write-mode. |
| eject_virtual_media | Ejects a mounted virtual media image; requires config write-mode. |
| redfish_patch | Sends a raw PATCH request to a Redfish URI; requires config write-mode. |
| redfish_post | Sends a raw POST request to a Redfish URI; requires config write-mode. |
| redfish_delete | Sends a raw DELETE request to a Redfish URI; requires config write-mode. |
| redfish_invoke_action | Invokes a named Redfish action on a target URI; requires config write-mode. |
| insert_virtual_media | Mounts a virtual media image from a URL; requires full write-mode. |
| clear_logs | Clears a Redfish log service; requires full write-mode. |
| manage_account | Creates, modifies, or deletes a BMC user account; requires full write-mode. |
| simple_update | Initiates a firmware update via the Redfish SimpleUpdate action; requires full write-mode. |
| reset_to_defaults | Resets the system or manager to factory defaults; requires full write-mode. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
