What it does
kernelCAD is a CAD runtime that represents designs as editable TypeScript source files (.kcad.ts), built on the OpenCASCADE kernel. It is designed for agents and developers who need deterministic, revision-controlled mechanical designs with validation, exports, and programmatic access.
- Generate and edit 3D mechanical designs as TypeScript source code, then export to STEP or STL for manufacturing.
- Validate CAD designs deterministically by checking constraints, hardware fit, and clearances before visual inspection.
- Integrate CAD generation into agent workflows by querying model parameters, features, and diagnostics through the MCP API.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| review_cad | Inspect and validate a generated CAD model with deterministic checks and visual review. |
| evaluate | Parse and evaluate a .kcad.ts source file to produce a 3D model. |
| export | Export a model to STEP or STL format for manufacturing or external use. |
| render | Generate rendered PNG or MP4 visualizations of a model, with optional inspection channels (RGB, mask, depth, normals). |
| generate_kcad_from_prompt | Convert a natural-language design brief into a .kcad.ts source file (available on hosted cloud service). |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
