What it does
MCP server for music notation, harmonic analysis, and engraving validation. Exposes three tools: render JSON scores to SVG/MusicXML/MIDI, analyze scores for harmony and keys, and check notation against a 423-rule engraving rulebook. For any application working with music: composition, analysis, MIDI pipelines, or theory Q&A.
- Render a JSON score to SVG and MIDI in a single call without needing a GUI music-notation tool.
- Analyze a MusicXML file to extract Roman numeral harmony, key changes, cadences, and range violations for each instrument.
- Check whether a score violates music-engraving conventions by querying a searchable rulebook with citable sources and rule IDs.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| notation_render | Convert a JSON score to inline SVG, MusicXML, and MIDI in one call. |
| notation_validate | Validate JSON score shape before rendering. |
| notation_examples | Retrieve canonical JSON input examples for score structure. |
| notation_schema | Fetch the JSON Schema for valid score input. |
| knowledge_search | Search a curated music-theory knowledge base for reference material. |
| theory_analyze_score | Parse MusicXML and return full harmonic analysis including keys, chords, cadences, and related theory knowledge. |
| theory_parse_xml | Convert a MusicXML string to a structured Score JSON object. |
| theory_validate_ranges | Check whether notes in a score fall within each instrument's practical playing range. |
| theory_respell | Suggest preferred enharmonic spellings for pitches in a given key context. |
| theory_pitch_utils | Perform pitch arithmetic: convert MIDI to pitch notation, transpose, calculate interval names. |
| engraving_rules | Search 423 music-engraving rules by text, domain, or severity. |
| engraving_rule | Fetch a single engraving rule by ID with its citation and related rules. |
| engraving_check | Validate a MusicXML score against the engraving rulebook and report violations by rule ID. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
