What it does
Laguarde is a self-hostable policy control plane that AI coding agents interact with via MCP to evaluate and record actions against defined policies. Teams or individual developers use it to maintain engineering practices, review agent decisions, and track policy changes over time.
- An agent checks whether a proposed code change or dependency action is allowed, limited, requires approval, or is forbidden before proceeding.
- A team defines reusable code rules, project initialization templates, and PR review guidelines in one central place and applies them across multiple repositories.
- Developers propose recurring preferences from agent actions, which are reviewed and ratified to strengthen future policy decisions across the team.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| get_policy_bundle | Retrieves the current policies and their revision IDs for the project. |
| evaluate_action | Returns the boundary decision (allowed, limited, approval, or forbidden) for a proposed action without persisting it. |
| record_decision | Re-evaluates and persists an action as evidence with SQLite recording and Markdown documentation. |
| list_preference_proposals | Lists pending developer preference proposals awaiting human review and ratification. |
| propose_preference | Submits a reusable developer correction or preference for human review and potential promotion to policy. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
