What it does

xmp4 is a hosted MCP server that indexes 856 open-source libraries using SCIP semantic code analysis, allowing AI agents to query source code, callers, type hierarchies, and usages without cloning repositories. It supports C#, Java, TypeScript, Python, Rust, and PHP with full coverage, and Go, JavaScript, Dart, Ruby, and C++ with best-effort support.

  • Find all callers of a specific function or method across a library without grepping the codebase.
  • Retrieve the signature, implementation body, and type hierarchy of a symbol in an OSS library.
  • Discover test files and test cases that exercise a particular piece of library code.

Tools this server exposes

ToolDoes
xmp4_searchSearch for symbols across indexed libraries by name.
xmp4_infoGet the signature and metadata of a symbol.
xmp4_sourceRetrieve the source code body of a symbol.
xmp4_callersFind all semantic callers of a symbol.
xmp4_calleesFind all functions or methods called by a symbol.
xmp4_usagesList all usages of a symbol across the codebase.
xmp4_hierarchyGet the type hierarchy (base classes, implementations) of a symbol.
xmp4_tests_forFind test files that exercise a given symbol.
xmp4_outlineGet the outline structure of a file or module.
xmp4_viewRetrieve raw file content by line range.
xmp4_grepPerform server-side regex search when semantic queries are insufficient.
xmp4_depsList dependencies of a library or project.
xmp4_symbol_atGet the symbol at a specific file location.
xmp4_projectsList indexed projects in a library.
xmp4_guideGet a skill pointer and cheatsheet for using xmp4 tools.
xmp4_serverReturn server version and indexing statistics.

Before you enable it

An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
