What it does
Bettermemory is an MCP memory server for coding agents that stores facts as markdown files and validates them against the filesystem and git history before retrieving them. It helps agents maintain accurate context by flagging outdated or broken references instead of repeating incorrect information.
- Store and retrieve facts about your codebase structure, including file paths and symbol locations, with automatic verification that they still exist.
- Track decisions and patterns discovered during coding sessions, with staleness indicators showing calendar age and commit history since last confirmation.
- Build a searchable knowledge base using deterministic lexical ranking over your own vocabulary without requiring embedding models or cloud services.
Tools this server exposes
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| memory_search | Search stored memory with lexical ranking and staleness verdicts for each result, including path existence checks and commit age. |
| memory_write | Write new memory entries as markdown files with declared claims about code paths and symbols for verification. |
| memory_confirm | Confirm or update existing memory entries to refresh their staleness verdict and timestamp. |
Before you enable it
An MCP server runs with whatever access you give it. Start with a development account rather than production, and check which tools the server exposes before you let an agent call them unattended.
